I wanted to thank you for your generosity in sending several care packages for my Soldiers and I. All of the items were scooped up quickly and very much appreciated! I can definitely tell you that mail day is one of everyone's favorite days and a pick-me-up for all soldiers. The fact that you would donate your time and money to support the troops truly does mean a lot to us here and I appreciate it.
Just a little about myself....I am a Major in the US Army and am on my 2nd tour to Iraq. I spent all of 2005 in Iraq and am currently on a 15 month tour (I deployed in Oct 07 and will return in Jan 09(. I lived on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) 30 miles south of Baghdad near the town of Iskandariyah. My job is the Brigade Logistics Officer. I am stationed with the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3D Infantry Division from fort Stewart, Georgia. I am originally from Ohio.
I know you don't get this on the news, because the news only wants to tell bad news stories, but the security station here in Iraq has improved dramatically since my last deployment in 2005. Although there are still threats of rockets and IEDs we are able to focus on the assisting to build the Iraqi government and economy. There are many Iraqis that actually want to see their communities and country succeed and are working hard to obtain that goal.
I have enclosed a couple of photos of the area for you to look at. There are actually some nice structures in some areas.
In closing, I would just like to thank you again and let you know how much my shop and I appreciated your care packages!
